Advent Tree Calendar Amy RobisonDecember is just around the corner which means it’s time for advent calendars. I love advent calendars! I created this one as a craft for my nieces and nephews to make together. I cut out all the ornaments in a variety of colors and let them mix and match to make their own special ornaments that hung on each family’s tree. I love little creative minds. They came up with more decorating ideas for each ornament than I did. I wish I had a picture of their trees to share. Take my word for it, they were adorable.

The idea behind this tree was that you add an ornament or present under the tree each day of the month. On Christmas morning you wake up to a fully decorated tree. If you prefer to have the pretty tree all month long, you could hang all the ornaments and number the back of each. Create a numbered list of holiday activities for each day. Then every morning the kids can find the ornament with the number of the day on it, and do the activity from the list next to that number.

Supplies Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Cut out all the pieces in the Christmas Tree Advent Calendar. I cut an extra amount of ornaments in each color, so I could mix and match to decorate them.
  2. Glue the tree together. The tree comes in three pieces and is scored down the middle of each piece to easily fold in half. Glue half of the first piece to half of the second, making sure the outside edges line up. Glue half of the second piece to half of the third. You’ll complete the circle of the tree by gluing the two remaining halves of the first and third piece together. When gluing the tree pieces together, be sure that there is no glue behind any of the branches that need to pop out. I recommend gluing along the edges and center fold when gluing to avoid gluing any branches down.
  3. Create the trunk by folding the strip into a ring and closing using the slits. You can also use some adhesive along the seam inside the trunk for extra support.
  4. Glue a star to the top of each side of the tree, making sure all the edges line up along the top.
  5. Make all your ornaments and presents. Embellish them any way you would like. You could even put little treats in the presents. The number of ornaments and presents need to total 25.
  6. Add twine to any ornaments and gift bags that need it.
