Today’s vinyl project uses glitter and twine to make a banner. These are great for outdoor banners since the vinyl won’t get soggy and tear in the rain. Here’s a tutorial to get you started making your own.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Cut banner out of vinyl. Peel one pennant shape at a time. I used the letters of the negative space on another project.
  2. Place pennant sticky side up with the letter at the top. Place twine on top of pennant in the center.
  3. Fold top of pennant over twine lining up with the bottom of the pennant. Take your time to make sure the two edges are aligned. Although you can pull the two pieces apart to realign if you make a mistake, the vinyl may stretch a bit and you’re more likely to get bubbles.
  4. Press the two sides together firmly making sure all the edges around the letter cutout are sealed.
  5. Pour glitter on the sticky vinyl revealed in the cut out space. Press the glitter down to make sure you have all your sticky area covered.
  6. Pour off excess glitter onto a scrap paper. I tapped it a few times on the table to help get most of it off.
  7. Using your scrap paper as a funnel, pour the glitter back into the bottle.
  8. Use a paintbrush to brush away excess glitter still stuck to the vinyl.
  9. Repeat steps 1-8 for each pennant on your banner.

Picture 10Look at all these fun colors of vinyl to choose from. I think it would be so cute to make a banner using several colors, the party banner die cut, and silver glitter that hangs in your yard all summer. Wouldn’t it be a cute addition to a playhouse or playground?

Don’t forget all Silhouette Vinyl is on sale this week for 25% off using the promo code ROBISON.
