Flower Garden Party

Spring is here and everyone at my house is so excited to finally be seeing this warmer weather and watching everything bloom. It’s such a beautiful time of year.

About a month ago my son picked out a seed planting kit in the Target dollar spot and sparked the whole idea for this party. He carefully planted his seeds and checked on them to make sure they had enough water and sunlight about 50 times a day. All he could talk about was how excited he was to plant the garden and for all the flowers to bloom. He has taken care of our garden the last two years and loves it. After he kept asking if his friends were going to plant any flowers or gardens, we decided to have a garden flower party to share his love of spring and everything blooming with others.

Planting the Seeds

Each child had their own place setting at some picnic tables outside that included empty egg cartons and some illustrated instructions to help them know what to do. In the center of each table I placed a large bucket with potting soil and some shovels to scoop the soil into their egg cartons. There was a variety of seed packets to choose from, so each child could plant what they wanted. I also included some blank circle stickers for the moms to write what was planted and place it on the lid of the egg carton to reflect where each seed was planted.

Once all the seeds were planted, everyone grabbed a watering can and watered the their seeds before drinking the rest. It was so cute watching them be so careful pouring out the water and pretending they were using a real watering can.

The highlight of the whole party was the cupcakes! I found the cutest plastic flower pots with shovel spoons and all the kids were so excited to use them. I thought they were the cutest thing and even bought an extra pack of shovel spoons for some upcoming parties. Aren’t they the cutest spoons you’ve ever seen?

I love the dirt on her nose in this picture. Messy kids always means they had fun.

Party Favors

After we planted our seeds and had cupcakes, the kids played in the backyard for a while and enjoyed the beautiful spring weather. As each guest left they took a party favor, or little seed packets filled with Skittles for the kids, and a paper bag of “tulip bulbs” (Lindt chocolates) for the moms. The moms definitely got the better end of the deal if you ask me. Haha!

I shared some more fun ideas to use at a garden party over at Love the Day blog. Head over and check it out. There is a fun origami flower pot tutorial that would make a fun party favor or invitation.

You can find all the designs used in this party in the Silhouette store or by clicking on the pictures below.

New Silhouette Cameo 3

Did you guys see all of the exciting new products Silhouette released yesterday? The biggest announcement was their new Silhouette Cameo 3.

Silhouette cameo 3 blog

Silhouette CAMEO 3

The machine is beautiful! I guess more importantly than its looks is that it has some really cool new features including bluetooth capability, so you don’t have to plug it into your USB port in your computer, and you can also use it with your wireless devices. Hallelujah! I have been waiting for this for a long time. I hate having to switch out my Cameo, phone cord, camera, external hard drives and everything else that plugs into my USB ports.

The second biggest feature of the Cameo 3 is the dual carriage. Now you can sketch and cut at the same time. It also come with a new self-adjusting blade. You just lock the blade into the machine and it automatically detects the blade depth needed to cut the material. So cool!

I did my first YouTube video today showing the unboxing of the new machine. Go check it out to see all the new features including all the added storage!

Specialty Media

Silhouette also released several new specialty media items. I get so excited over things like this. They now have printable shrink plastic. I have used material similar to it before for cake toppers and pins in previous posts. I’m super excited for this stuff! I like to think that maybe I gave them the idea. Haha! I’m sure they had it in the works long before I started playing around with shrink plastic. Either way, it’s going to be so awesome to be able to print designs on it too!

They also have printable vinyl and window clings. The printable vinyl will be so fun for a ton of different projects. My mind is going crazy with ideas. If you saw my Instagram post about the amazing Kitchen Aid mixer Kayla Brasher embellished using printable vinyl and my floral designs, you’ll be excited too. I think the window clings will work great on our family calendar. And how cute would it be to make your own custom holiday window clings for your kids to use?

There are several more products that are new, so head over and check them all out. I can’t wait to create new projects and test out the materials and Silhouette Cameo 3. I’ll be posting tutorials for using your Silhouette software, specialty media, and creating projects on my brand new YouTube channel. Take a look at the new Cameo 3 video and subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss a thing!

My Favorite Paper Crafting Tools

trimmer and punches

You know those tools you grab for every paper project? Well, I’m sharing a few of my favorites over on Craftsy’s blog today. I’ll be reviewing my paper trimmer, punches and adhesives. If you’re new to paper crafting or just want to see which tools I prefer, go take a look. I especially love the Tombow Mono Liquid Glue and use it for all my boxes and other 3D projects.

What are your go-to tools when you craft? I’m always on the lookout for new products to try. I’ll be sharing more of my favorites soon.

Reese’s Blessing Dress

Reese Blessing 1

This baby of mine is absolutely perfect in every way. I can’t get enough of her sweet smiles and chubby cheeks. She is very happy and content and loves to talk all day. Her brothers smother her with hugs and kisses and she just smiles at them, for the most part. She has brought so much joy into our family and we are all madly in love with her.

Reese Blessing 2

I love this dress with its tiny hand-stitched details yet overall simplicity. It brings the focus to those irresistible cheeks on the sweetest face. One of my favorite things to do is swaddle Reese up tight and just see this round little head poking out. This dress gives the same effect and it’s adorable.

Reese Blessing 5

I love this fluffy hair. It is so soft and feels like silk. I want to rub my cheeks against it all day, but I try to control myself so I don’t bother her too much. The boys feel the same way and can’t keep their hands off of it either. I often find little crumbs of goldfish crackers and more from their tiny fingers in her hair.

Reese Blessing 9

My grandma gave her this beautiful bracelet to wear on her special day. It is still a little big so I just put it on for pictures so we wouldn’t lose it. It’s something I hope she treasures forever and always reminds her of how much she is loved, because she truly is.

Pineapple Party Favors

pineapple thanks

We blessed Reese a few weeks ago at church and had our family over afterward for brunch. I kept it much simpler this time than I did when we blessed the boys. Like, a millions times simpler. I had more free time then with two newborns napping, than I do now with two wild toddlers and a newborn.  I decorated the tables with honeycomb balls and pineapples. All the pineapples doubled as a party favor with a “thanks” hanging from it that each family took home. It looked so cheerful and was easy to set up, which made the day even more enjoyable.

pineapple cookie

My cousin made these adorable cookies to serve and my boys are still talking about them. In fact, Jax had a meltdown today that we didn’t have any of these cookies left. It has been a few weeks and he still remembers them. I’ll admit, I wanted to have a meltdown too that they were gone. Those cookies were absolutely delicious!

We had a beautiful day surrounded by family and it was perfect. I’ll be posting some pictures of my sweet Reese in her blessing dress. I can’t get enough of her smiles and chubby cheeks. As my boys say, “She’s delicious!”

Book Binding Tutorial

book binding tut

There are several ways to bind a booklet, and today I’m going to show you a simple way using some string, a needle and hole punch (optional).

book binding tutorial

You can follow the illustration above or use the step by step pictures below.

book binding blog1

book binding blog2

  1. Fold all your pages in half.
  2. Align the centers of all the papers.
  3. Mark where you want your holes to be. You will need three.
  4. Use a small hole punch to cut out the holes for easier threading. I do this if I have a lot of pages and if they are cardstock. If you have a few thin sheets, you can just poke through with a needle and your string.
  5. Start by threading your string through the middle hole into the center of the book.
  6. Thread it from the center to the top.
  7. From the top hole, take it down and through the bottom hole into the center of the book.
  8. String it from the bottom hole through the center hole to the outside of the book.
  9. Both ends of the string should be on either side of the string going down the spine.
  10. Tie your two threads in a square knot around the center string. Then you can tie the two ends in a bow around the book to close it.

I love this simple way of binding and the professional look it gives your projects. If you don’t want to have the remainder string on the outside of your book so that you can use it as a clasp, just flip the sides of the steps and start step one from the inside of the book instead of the outside. Then you can finish with a small knot on the inside of the book and cut off the tail strings.

You can see all the details of the inside of this planner on my post HERE.

Brush Script Cards

full heart crop

I have some new brush script cards in the Silhouette store today. They are sized 4×6 and 3×4, perfect for journaling and scrapbooking. I scaled them down and used them as tags on little gifts for friends. I love this top quote. It fits me perfectly. With twin toddler boys and a 2 month old baby, my hands are definitely full, but so is my heart. A friend of mine just had twins and I knew this tag was the best fit for her treat.

I have not blogged for a while and those of you following me on Instagram have seen why. I just had a baby a month ago and am still getting used to life with three. My little Reese is the sweetest baby and it’s hard to imagine our life before her. My boys are so in love with her and love to give her kisses and hugs all day. How could you not want to kiss those chubby cheeks! They sing to her when she cries and love to take care of her. She gets these big eyes with a terrified look on her face when she hears them near. Haha! I don’t blame her. At 2 years old, their kisses are wet and their hugs aren’t always soft. They do adore her though, and I am so happy.

I originally made all of these flowers I’ve been featuring on my blog for a piece of art to hang in Reese’s room. I love the versatility of them and hope you have enjoyed using them as well.

My sister had her first baby a few days after me. How fun is that! This is the invitation for her shower (address is fake) along with little party favors. I used the spring bouquets and blossoms with the pink dot pattern paper. You can use these designs for more party decor such as cupcake toppers, banners and more. It turned out great and we had a wonderful time celebrating.

These two little cousins are going to be the best of friends and I am so excited to see them grow up together. They are such sweet little babies and we love having them in our family.

Spring Bouquets

spring bouquet collage1

New in the Silhouette store this week are these print and cut spring bouquets along with individual cut files for each flower. I’ll be sharing some ideas of ways to use them this week to embellish and create your own designs.

The first way I used them was on these signs I made for a wedding reception. I used the different bouquets to embellish the signs which made each one unique, but also kept them coordinating. You can follow the same designing through to party favors, table numbers, thank you cards, etc.

Valentine Party Recap

I go through waves of posting on the blog. Last week I posted almost every day, and this week, I’ve been silent until today. I’ve been working on a fun pirate party that has kept me busy all week. It will be available on Silhouette next week! You can see sneak peeks of it on my Instagram.

Today I thought I’d show you some photos from the Valentine party I hosted for some friends and their kids. I have been friends with these girls since high school, some since elementary, and we love meeting up for playdates every month. This is my second year hosting the Valentine party and I hope to make it an annual thing, if they keep showing up. :) I grabbed a few photos from my talented friend Kara. I’m so lucky she came prepared with her camera and snapped a few pictures for me. I always have intentions of photographing the parties, but am too busy running the show. haha. Thanks so much Kara. You can see more of the party on her blog.

This is the banner I made using the tutorial from Poppy and Dot. Each child took home their picture when they left as a little Valentine from their mom.

Busy decorating their Valentine boxes.

Playing BINGO with their faces on the cards. This was a hit! They all asked if they could take their cards home with them so they could play some more.

You would not believe the volume in my little house during this party. I think it’s safe to say, we all had a great time.

Here is some of the loot the kids received during their Valentine exchange at the party. They were all so excited.
