Tropical Paradise

tropical cupcakes

Back in May I was invited to attend the Silhouette Summit in Hawaii that Silhouette hosted to debut their new products coming out this year. It was so fun, obviously, and I came back so rejuvenated and inspired by all the beauty those islands hold. I apparently came back on Hawaiian time, because it took me a few months to get back into the swing of things and create these tropical paradise designs. Haha!

Pineapple and Coconut Boxes

The pineapple and coconut box are fun to use as decor for a luau, to hold utensils and treats, or to use as gift box containing a party favor. You can find some simple instructions for assembling the boxes on Amanda Coleman’s blog, or more detailed step-by-step instructions using my 3D apple tutorial that is very similar to these shapes.

Cupcake Wrappers

One of the reasons I love cupcake wrappers so much is they can dress up any cupcake. I am not a baker and don’t have the talent of making beautifully frosted cupcakes. I can swirl on some white frosting and add some sprinkles though. With the addition of the cupcake wrappers and toppers, they look professional and almost make it look like I know what I’m doing. ;) Plus, my dessert now coordinates with the rest of my party which is always a good thing.

Tropical Gift Card

Here’s another look at the gift card envelopes. The card slides in to complete the image through the cut-out piece on the envelopes. Fun, right? You can write a little a message on the card, then slip it in the envelope with the gift card. So simple, but such a thoughtful touch.palm tree gift card 2

Host a Luau this summer and I know all your guests will enjoy these fun tropical designs too.

Paper Easter Basket

easter flower basket crop

There is something so simple and soothing about the color white. I love how it softens everything up and adds so much light. I did a lot of white on white with this paper Easter basket and love how it makes the peach flower pop even more. Just think how beautifully it would show off a basket full of colored Easter eggs. Wouldn’t it make the perfect gift bag for a friend this spring?easter flower basket detail crop Easter flower basket side crop

All of these die cuts are available in the Silhouette design store and you can find a tutorial to make the flower here.

3D Flower Tutorial

3D flower

New in the Silhouette store is this easy 3D flower. You can use it in a bouquet for home or party decor. It’s also a great embellishment for cards and scrapbooks. Make it out of fabric or felt and use it for a hair accessory. Follow this easy 3D flower tutorial below to make your own.

3D flower tutorial 1

Cut out 14 pink 1 1/2″ circles, 1 pink 1″ circle and 1 yellow strip measuring 1/4″x8.5″. Cut a slit to the center of each 1 1/2″ circle. Glue 1/4″ of either side of the slit on top of each other to add dimension to each petal. 3D flower tutorial 2

Using the 1″ circle as a base, begin gluing petals around the edges with the slits toward the base. For this flower I glued 5 flowers on the base and 5 on the second layer. The third layer has has three petals. The remaining petal is used on top for the center of the flower.

3D flower tutorial 3

Curl the yellow strip by wrapping it around a pencil. Glue the two ends together. Adjust the curls until it looks the way you want it. Glue the yellow, curled strip to the center of the flower.

Christmas Tree Advent Calendar

Advent Tree Calendar Amy RobisonDecember is just around the corner which means it’s time for advent calendars. I love advent calendars! I created this one as a craft for my nieces and nephews to make together. I cut out all the ornaments in a variety of colors and let them mix and match to make their own special ornaments that hung on each family’s tree. I love little creative minds. They came up with more decorating ideas for each ornament than I did. I wish I had a picture of their trees to share. Take my word for it, they were adorable. Continue reading

Happy Halloween!

DIY halloween party

I promised these images weeks ago, and I’m finally posting today. We’ve been practicing the phrases “Happy Halloween” and “trick-or-treat” the last few days and it’s paying off. Today I heard the boys in their room yelling “Happy Halloween!” out the window to the garbage man. Cutest thing ever!

I’m going to go get my little minions costumes ready for a fun night of trick-or-treating. Have a fun and safe Halloween!

You can find all these Halloween Party cut files and more in my Silhouette Portfolio.

Candy Wrapper Box Tutorial

candy box blog

I love making treat boxes and this candy wrapper box is one of my favorites. This is the perfect one for those times when you need to make a lot. It has very few pieces and doesn’t require a lot of candy to fill it. The ends twist shut just like wrappers on candy really do. Check out the tutorial below to see how it’s made.

candy boxe tutorial

Supplies Needed:

  1. Cut out the Candy Wrapper Box and label on the Silhouette. I used the Silhouette Sketch Pens to write “thanks” on mine before cutting it out and glueing it on my box. Fold box in half and glue together along tab.
  2. Pinch the ends in along perforated lines. Fill with candy. Twist ends in opposite directions to close.
  3. After twisting, spread the ends of the box open to hold the ends in place.
  4. Finish each box with ribbons on both ends, or any other embellishments you would like to add.

ABC Flashcards

This is one of those projects I’ve wanted to do for a few years now, and there’s no time like the present. It’s back to school season and these flashcards are perfect for the little ones. There is a flashcard for both the upper and lowercase of each letter. Each vowel has a word for both the long and short vowel sounds.

Although we’re just learning the very basics like animal sounds at my house right now, my boys will be ready to learn the alphabet before I know it. As I was illustrating the letter ‘Dd’ my boys looked at the computer and both said “woof! woof! rawwrr!” I guess the animal sounds are sinking in. I’m so proud!

ABC Flash Cards

Tomorrow I’ll show you how these flashcards can be cut and used for kids crafts to help learn each letter.

Woodland Party by Ali

My adorable friend Ali is due with her first baby this month and I’m so excited for her. She sent me some pictures from a baby shower her mother-in-law threw her using the Woodland Party Theme. Notice the cake topper is the fox from the invitation. Clever. She also used the garland for decor along the table runner instead of hanging. Thanks for sending these to me Ali. You are going to be the best little mama and I can’t wait to meet the little guy!

Hip Hip Hooray! Free Download

I made this banner to celebrate my niece’s kindergarten graduation. It’s a great banner that can be used for many occasions, and goes well with a variety or party decorations. It would be fun for a summer party or to celebrate small achievements such as an A on a spelling test. Make little party favors using a coordinating tag, ribbon, and small paper sack.

Silhouette Promotion + Free Download and Tutorial

Silhouette has a great promotion going on right now for their Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. This is what sold me on my first Silhouette. I wanted a digital cutting machine that could cut out my own custom designs without having to buy cartridges or only use the designs available from the company. The Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio makes this possible. Not only do you have more tools to create your own custom designs, but it also allows you to import .svg files from your favorite designers online that aren’t available in the Silhouette Online Store. I’ll have several free .svg downloads for you during the promotion to help you take full advantage of this great offer.

Father’s Day Gift Card Holder

shirt gift card holder

It has been a busy week around here and I haven’t posted much. I wanted to give you one last Father’s Day gift idea just in time for the big day. This simple shirt and tie gift card holder can be whipped up in minutes to hold a gift to dad’s favorite store or restaurant. Cut it out in paper that matches their favorite shirt or style to make it unique to them. You can even cut a small notecard to slip inside telling him how much you love him. My husband loves the outdoors and to hunt. I’m going to cut his out of camo paper (no tie) and insert a gift card to Cabela’s.  Enjoy dressing your gift card up like dad.

Don’t forget the Silhouette Heat Transfer Promotion ends tomorrow. Click HERE for heat transfer pricing and use code ROBISON at checkout to receive your discount.
