book party kit

I have a few new kits available in my portfolio at the Silhouette Online Store this week. One of which is this Book Party Kit that I did for my boys’ first birthday. We celebrated with family and had a wonderful time.

Invitations

The invitations were made using library pockets and cards. I typed up the information on the card, cut out the number for their age on the pocket and tied with a bow. I slipped them in envelopes cut from old books found at a good will store, and they were ready to be mailed.

Banners & Party Hats

The triangle pennant banner and party hats were also cut from old books. I stapled some elastic to the party hats and embellished with paper fringe to complete the look. I used my Silhouette to cut out the letters for Happy Birthday and strung them together with twine.

Cupcakes

Book worm cupcakes were the perfect party treat. I cut different colored sticks of gum in half, then folded them in the center to look like a book. Stuck a gummy worm in the top and there you have it, a yummy book worm cupcake. These were so simple and took less time than I expected. Always a plus in my book.

Photo Banner

This was one of my favorite parts of the party. I enlarged the library pocket and card to fit a 3×3 photo on the front. Each photo was a picture of the boys from every month of their life until they were one. On the library card in each pocket I wrote the boys’ height and weight, along with milestones for that month. This took work and thought ahead of time but it was fun to see it come together. It hung in the entry way for each guest to look at and read what the boys were doing every month. A perfect way to show their first year of life. I also combined all of the photos to make a thank you card.

Games

We had a few games and activities for the kids. The first was The Giving Tree. I had prizes wrapped and pinned to a tree. Each child picked one out and opened it to see what was inside.

Next we had a scavenger hunt. I read the book Where is Baby’s Birthday Cake? and we discovered that we had to find our birthday cakes too. There were clues left on library cards tucked in numbered pocket like those on the invitations. The kids had a blast with the treasure hunt.

Last the kids all received a cotton bag with their party favors and a blank board book to color their own story. I was surprised at how quiet and focussed they became as they created their books.

Party Favors

Each child received bookplate stickers in their bags so they could label their new board books and their favorite books at home. Everyone was given a thank you note on a library card tucked inside a pocket with a Dr. Seuss quote printed on it. A simple paperclip bookmark was attached.

This Book Party kit would be great for birthday parties, baby showers and your monthly book club. Enjoy!

  • party hat
  • library card and pocket//  used for the invitation and thank you card
